TRANSLATION PROCESS


To reach our quality goals, we follow the requirements in the UNI EN ISO 17100 standard for translation services and carry out our work as a six-step process.

Taking the job on

The order will be taken by a project manager, the key person in the entire translation process, who will organise the professionals involved in the project. The project manager is the go-to person for the customer and the translators, and is responsible for ensuring the quality and punctuality of the service. They define alongside the customer the content to be translated, the delivery times and any particular requirements of format or layout in the final product. In this initial phase, there will also be a detailed analysis of the original text, to identify any potential problems that may need removing or correcting. The project manager also writes the offer to the customer and receives the formal order.

Starting the project

The project manager will contact the translator or team of translators working on the project, who are chosen on the basis of their skills and technical abilities. If need be, the documents to be translated will be converted into an editable format and a translation project will be created inside a CAT tool. At this point the translation memories and term glossaries will be chosen for the translators' use.

Translation

The translation is done by a single translator of pool of translators, professional native speakers of the target language. In this phase, the translators involved will be in close contact with the project manager, who will resolve any problems that may arise in translation and acts as an interlocutor between translator and customer, to ensure the final product meets expectations and is delivered by the agreed deadline.

Revision and proof-reading

The draft translation will undergo a thorough revision by independent revisers – not the same people who translated it. These are professionals with a lot of experience, knowledgeable about the sectors and languages they work in. At this phase, the original text and the translation are compared and read in parallel, to ensure every single part of the text has been translated and that the information is clear, relevant and in a suitable form and register. At the final revision, the text will be read once more all the way through, to see that it flows and sounds natural in the target language. This double-step ensures the quality of the final product.

QA check and delivery

The project manager will take back the helm of the project and do a quality control to ensure the final product is fully in line with the customer's demands. Then, the translation will be delivered to the customer in the format requested.

Archiving the project

The project manager and revisers who have worked on the project will now update the customer's translation memories and term glossaries and update the database of translators with any assessments of the translator's work. The translation, legally protected, will be saved in a file in our archives.
