INTERPRETING

SIMULTANEOUS AND CONFERENCE INTERPRETING

Simultaneous interpretation is the ideal solution for conferences or meetings where people are speaking two or more languages.

In simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter normally sits in a soundproof booth (in line with ISO standards), equipped with a console. They listen to the speaker through headphones and provide the interpretation simultaneously (that is, almost simultaneously) through a microphone, which transmits it to everyone who doesn't know the language the speaker is using, through headphones of their own.

In some circumstances, we may use the Bidule radio system, which does not require a soundproof booth. The advantages of this system are that it is inexpensive, easy to carry about and manage. The main disadvantage is the lack of soundproofing, which could be detrimental to the interpreter's ability to listen and to the quality of the sound picked up by the listeners through their headphones.

CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING

Consecutive interpreting involves translating a speech after the speaker has concluded it, or part of it. While the speaker is speaking, the interpreter takes notes, then translates the speech afterwards for the other participants. In practice, the speaker goes on for about five to ten minutes, then stops and passes the floor to the interpreter, who translates aloud.

The interpreter takes notes of the entire core of the message using a method of symbols and abbreviations that stand for not just the individual words, but the abstract meaning of the speech. This technique allows the interpreter to repeat all the meaning and nuance of the speech.

This type of interpreting is particularly recommended for speeches that last only a few hours and for an audience consisting of only two distinct language groups. Consecutive interpreting is the perfect solution when several speakers who speak different languages take turns during a conference and each gives a speech lasting half an hour to an hour, to an audience who all speak the same language.

The advantage of this method is that it does not require any special equipment (there's no need to set up a soundproof booth for the interpreter), but it does have the disadvantage of doubling the length of the speech, as once the speaker has spoken, the interpreter will have to repeat it in the target language.

INTERPRETING FOR BUSINESS DEALS

We provide this service at business meetings, when the parties need an interpreter who not only has a perfect command of the languages spoken at the meeting, but also the right technical and business skills to make the meeting comprehensive and effective.

The use of an interpreter is particularly suitable for small or one-to-one meetings, where the parties need to be able to interact in a free and unstructured manner, with frequent interruptions and a very fast back-and-forth.

Negotiation interpreting is indicated when concluding agreements or contracts, trade fairs, company visits, factory tours, language training courses, cultural visits and foreign delegations.

Language Service provides serious, skilled interpreters who can follow you through your project, continuing to be your point of reference for foreign-language communication with your partners, even after the meeting, throughout the follow-up, taking care of your written and phone communication down to the smallest detail and suiting it to your requirements.

Confidentiality: aware of the importance to our customers of the information shared at meetings, our interpreters are held to the strictest confidentiality, bound by professional secrecy and specific confidentiality agreements.
